ENTHRONE participates in the 2nd International Workshop on Semantic Media Adaptation and Personalization (SMAP 2007) with a paper entitled “Towards MPEG-21-based Cross-layer Multimedia Content Adaptation“.
Abstract:
Cross-layer designs are becoming more and more attractive within the multimedia community since multiple-play services pave their way towards consumer markets enabling mobility in various aspects. However, cross-layer designs so far have mainly focused on performance issues and do not provide much support in terms of interoperability which is a requirement for services envisaged as part of the Fixed-Mobile Service Convergence (FMSC) initiative. This paper presents a first attempt towards increasing the interoperability of cross-layer designs by adopting an open standard – MPEG-21 Digital Item Adaptation – for describing the functional dependencies across network layers. In this paper a three-step approach for multimedia content adaptation is presented that introduces an MPEG-21-based crosslayer architecture.

ENTHRONE has participated in and contributed to the 82nd MPEG meeting. The meeting just ended a few minutes ago with some really exiting news. The position of the Requirements Chair is vacant and, thus, each sub-group has to deal with its requirements by its own. The Liaisons sub-group does no longer exist and liaison matters are delegated/handled to/by the respective sub-groups aslo. Furthermore, MDS has been integrated into Systems in the same way as ISG/Test into Video. Finally, NIST who hosted the Web site so far did this the last time … another solution is required for the forthcoming meetings. Other detailed technical news will be posted later.
